Do you remember the silence of the first snowfall? Do you remember the fun of Halloween, Christmas and Thanksgiving? When you pulled on the first comfy sweatshirt in the fall, or sat around eating pancakes in your pajamas because it was too cold to go outside? Well, all of that is over and to make us feel ok about it the world is covered in flowers and birds, and green leaves are sprouting out from every limb and bit of soil.
It is time to put away the boots by the door and pack up those bulky comforters. Dust off all the window ledges and open them wide to let in all that aspiring April air. Don’t forget to clean out the fridge to make way for all the berries and fresh produce you will most certainly over-buy at the farmer’s market.
Stay true to your resourceful winter-weather ways with this cleaner made from white vinegar and the peels from those clementines that are starting to look out of place next to the asparagus. Then you will be ready for a whole new season, a shift towards summer’s own kind of simple. After all, it is time to allow newness and possibility in as if you never cocooned away the cold months. As if you won’t miss the excuse to hibernate. Or is it just me?
Clementine All-Purpose Cleaner
-peels from 4 or 5 clementines (or a combination of citrus fruit peels)
-distilled white vinegar
-jar with lid
Place the clementine peels in a jar. Pour in enough vinegar to cover the peels. Put a lid on the jar and let it sit for 10 to 14 days, then strain out the peels. Mix 2 parts water with 1 part clementine vinegar and use as an all purpose cleaner.
(Note: Vinegar cleaners may be too acidic for hardwood and natural stone like marble and granite. Test a discreet spot first).
