As a writer, food stylist, and cook, I am a inspired by the season and setting—food as an extension of time and place. I believe that entertaining should be delightful, creative and simple, and that eating should be about nurturing the body as well as the connections made around the table. Finally, I believe that meaningful moments can be found in the quiet everyday lives we lead and I am always looking for them. I share all of that here.
How I got to this point began with a love of writing followed by a love of cooking and the beauty of food. I have a degree in Creative Writing from Appalachian State University and am a graduate of Johnson and Wales University’s College of Culinary Arts. I was a food editor for Better Homes and Gardens for five years. I have also developed recipes and written for Forbes Travel Guide, The Charleston Post and Courier, James Beard Award-winning cookbook author Nathalie Dupree, ReadyMade and BHG.com.
In the midst of all that career-building there was a plot twist—I fell in love. When I moved to D.C. with my husband, I started this site, originally called Two for the Moon. It began as a way to chronicle our newlywed days that eventually evolved into a collection of moments and meals and stories until the name no longer seemed fitting. Now it is a collection of things I am working on, recipes, essays, and photos all created by me, often with our little baby girl (Baby L) at my feet. The man in our life (Mr. L) is also a central part of this site, after all he inspired it all.
These three posts are origin stories, if you will, and can orient you to our story and to the heart of who I am. Welcome and enjoy!
